Market women urged to embrace Alternative Dispute Resolution

Women in Ghana are being encouraged to explore peaceful dispute resolution methods as a way of protecting relationships, reducing conflict, and improving access to justice.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) continues to provide an important opportunity for individuals and communities in Ghana to resolve disagreements through peaceful and constructive processes.

At an educational outreach programme held at the Adenta Market and Shopping Mall in June 2026, market women were encouraged to embrace ADR as an alternative to lengthy and potentially costly court proceedings. The programme was organised by Women and ADR under the theme, “Educating Women in the Use and Benefits of ADR in Conflict Resolution.”

Participants received information on mediation and other ADR approaches that can help address disagreements involving families, workplaces, religious organisations, businesses, and communities.

The outreach also highlighted the importance of equipping women with the knowledge and confidence to manage disputes constructively. When women understand their options for resolving conflicts, they can make more informed decisions and contribute to peaceful environments in their homes and communities.

Women and ADR recognises that public education is essential to making ADR more accessible. By taking these conversations into markets and other community spaces, the organisation can help bridge the gap between dispute resolution services and the people who need them.

The way forward

More community education, practical guidance, and collaboration with local stakeholders can help strengthen public understanding of ADR across Ghana. Women, traders, families, and community leaders all have a role to play in promoting dialogue and peaceful solutions.
